13 settembre 2022 Mahsa Amini viene arrestata a Teheran dalla  polizia religiosa (organo responsabile di vigilare sull’osservanza obbligatoria dei precetti e delle norme di comportamento di una determinata religione e delle norme della legge religiosa) accusata di non indossare regolarmente l’Hijab. Viene arrestata, portata in caserma dove a seguito di un malore sviene; trasportata in ospedale, (Video Stazione di polizia), il 16 Settembre 2022, dopo tre giorni di coma, viene dichiarato il decesso. Secondo quanto riporta il fratello Kiaresh, Mahsa riportava lividi sulla testa e segni sulle gambe, alcuni medici parlano di fratture ed emorragie. Altri parlano di morte per causa naturala dovuta alla correlazione con la Malattia pregressa di Mahsa. Il dottor Masoud Shirvani, neurochirurgo membro del consiglio della Società di Neurochirurgia dell’Iran, ha dichiarato che Amini, quando aveva 8 anni, è stata operata al cervello per la rimozione di un tumore e aggiunge : «Il tumore che ha avuto in passato non può essere strettamente correlato al decesso, ma eventuali problemi ormonali, se associati a stress, potrebbero causare danni».

Rimangono comunque parecchie discordanze tra quello dichiarato dall’ospedale e quello visto da Kiaresh.

Le prime proteste nascono casualmente fuori dall’ospedale dove era ricoverata per poi sfociare in tutto il paese. Nasce lo slogan “Donne, Vita, Libertà”, le proteste sono iniziate come obiezione all’obbligo dell’hijab, con il passare del tempo si sono trasformate in qualcosa di più.

In assenza di un leader politico del movimento, l’identificazione di richieste specifiche si rivela difficile. L’incapacità e il disinteresse del governo di comprendere le richieste all’inizio delle proteste e di soddisfarle ha causato una crisi che sta ancora cercando di affrontare. Finora, l’unica reazione alle proteste è stata il ricorso alla polizia e all’uso della forza.

Che sia in atto un Cambio di Regime “invitato” dagli Stati Uniti?
